Buddy project

Light white/pink color with the shadows of trees and leaves and big black text that reads "Call a crip. Breaking the isolation / Being in Solidarity. Sign up to get paired with a sick comrade" There is a grey flip phone in the bottom right corner.
The same background and the text: "Sick Comrade Collective is pairing sickos to check in on each other, form friendships, exchange tips and be in solidarity"

Call A Crip – A Sick Comrade Buddy Project

As one response to the sick comrade survey we sent our recently over our social media and mailing list (thank you so much to all who contributed!) we are launching a project to pair sickos with fellow sickos. This is for you if you’re chronically sick, mad, mentally ill, or disabled. (If you are asking yourself if you are sick enough, you probably are). Join from anywhere.

We know that it is our connections with one another that allow for our survival. There are so many barriers to social connection for chronically sick and disabled people. But we know that community is necessary and keeps us safe.

Capitalism and ableism are set on alienating ourselves from each other. We hope to put a dent in the loneliness.

After you fill out the form, we will pair you with a buddy over email and you can decide how to connect. Our intention with this is to create connections of solidarity and support, but you can decide in whcih ways you engage (for example email, text, call, video, letters) and for how long.

Being a buddy could look like

– sharing tips on accessing care

– just checking in and offering copying strategies

– talking about shared hobbies or politics

– exchanging about the struggles of ableism

– anything else
